Best Real Estate Courses and Certifications in India (2026): Paid Programs, Diplomas and RERA Agent Training Compared

If you sell property in Maharashtra, a real estate course stopped being optional in 2023. MahaRERA now requires a Certificate of Competency before an agent can register or renew, and Uttar Pradesh has set 31 December 2026 as the deadline for its registered agents to finish mandatory training. For brokers, choosing a course is now a licence question. For developers hiring presales and sales staff, it is a screening question: which credentials actually predict someone who calls a new lead within minutes and never lets it slip?

This guide compares the paid options by format: state RERA agent training, executive programmes, full-time MBA and PG programmes, and professional-body certifications. Fees come from each provider's official page as of September 2026; confirm before you pay, as they change every cycle. For no-cost options, see our list of free online real estate courses with certificates in India.

Quick answer: which real estate course should you take?

  • Registering or renewing as an agent in Maharashtra or Uttar Pradesh: the state RERA agent training and exam. It is mandatory, short, and costs well under ₹10,000.
  • Already working in real estate and want a management qualification without quitting: a weekend executive programme such as NICMAR's 11-month E-PGP in Real Estate Development and Management.
  • Fresh graduate aiming for a developer, consultancy or lender career: a full-time MBA or PG programme in real estate from NICMAR or the RICS School of Built Environment.
  • Heading into valuation, advisory or international work: an RICS certificate now, and the RICS APC route to chartered (MRICS) status later.

1. State RERA agent training and certification

This is the only real estate course in India that is legally required, and only where a state has mandated it. It covers the RERA Act, the state portal, agent duties, due diligence, agreements and real estate calculations. It does not teach you to sell; it teaches you what you are allowed, and obliged, to do.

MahaRERA (Maharashtra)

  • What it is: a minimum 20-hour programme from a MahaRERA-empanelled training provider, followed by an online exam conducted by IBPS. Passing earns a Certificate of Competency with a unique number that must be quoted for registration and renewal.
  • The exam: around 50 multiple-choice questions for 100 marks, with a pass mark of 40, in English or Marathi. You get three attempts before you must retrain.
  • Fees: MahaRERA caps training fees at ₹5,000 and exam fees at ₹1,500, both excluding GST, according to its agent training and certification guidelines. As one example, the NAREDCO–REMI live online batch is listed at ₹5,900 including GST for 20 hours of evening sessions over two weeks.
  • Who must take it: individual agents, the authorised signatory of agent firms, and any staff who deal with homebuyers. You need 60% attendance to be allowed into the exam.

UP RERA (Uttar Pradesh)

UP RERA's January 2026 office order makes training and certification compulsory for every registered agent, including partners, directors and a first tranche of sales staff at agent firms. As reported by The Realty Today, the programme runs for four non-residential days with an exam on day four. The fee is ₹6,000 per participant, a re-attempt costs ₹3,000, and agents registered before the order must be certified by 31 December 2026.

Most other states still register agents without a competency exam. Before paying a private academy for "RERA certification", check your own state RERA website; our explainer on RERA's objectives and rules covers what the Act expects of agents.

2. Executive programmes for working professionals

NICMAR University, Pune: E-PGP in Real Estate Development and Management

  • Format and duration: eleven months in blended mode on weekends, with intakes in April and October.
  • Fee: ₹2,00,000 plus 18% GST, per the NICMAR School of Executive Education.
  • Eligibility: graduates with at least 24 months of relevant experience. Diploma holders need 60 months plus a bridge course at ₹20,000 plus GST.
  • Best for: sales managers and project staff moving toward business development, project or general management roles at a developer.

3. Full-time MBA and PG programmes in real estate

These are campus-based career-entry qualifications with placements into developers, consultancies, lenders and valuation firms. They cost lakhs, not thousands, and suit a management track rather than a quick start in broking.

NICMAR University, Pune: MBA in Real Estate and Urban Infrastructure Management

  • Duration: two years, four semesters.
  • Fee: ₹10,10,000 in total under the 2025 admissions fee structure, which is ₹2.5 lakh tuition per semester plus a ₹10,000 refundable deposit. Hostel and mess are extra.
  • Best for: graduates targeting developer, infrastructure or real estate consulting roles.

NICMAR Hyderabad: PGP in Real Estate Development and Management

  • Duration: one year, covering real estate finance, marketing, laws and contracts, and investment appraisal.
  • Eligibility: a relevant bachelor's degree with at least 50%, plus CAT, MAT, GAT or NICMAR's own NCAT and a GD-PI, per the programme page. Confirm the fee on the campus admissions page.

RICS School of Built Environment, Amity University (Mumbai): MBA in Real Estate and Urban Infrastructure

  • Duration and fee: two years, with the first-year semester fee listed at ₹3.31 lakh for non-sponsored students on the Amity programme page.
  • Curriculum highlights: land assembly, asset valuation, real estate market research, and a third-semester course in marketing communication and CRM.

4. Professional-body certifications

RICS Certificate in Residential Real Estate

  • Format: online and self-paced, with eight modules of roughly a month each plus time for the final exam (305 days of access), worth 72 hours of formal CPD. The fee is £1,530, or £1,133 for RICS members, on the RICS Online Academy.
  • Worth knowing: RICS itself describes it as a professional training course, not an accreditation, and it does not lead directly to RICS membership.

RICS APC: the route to chartered (MRICS) status

The long game for valuation and advisory careers. According to RICS, candidates with under 10 years of experience need 12 to 24 months of structured training, 48 hours of CPD in the last year, a 3,000-word case study and a 60-minute panel interview. It is not a sales credential.

Side-by-side comparison

  • MahaRERA training + exam: 20+ hours; up to ₹5,000 + ₹1,500 plus GST; mandatory in Maharashtra.
  • UP RERA training + exam: 4 days; ₹6,000; mandatory in UP (existing agents by 31 December 2026).
  • NICMAR E-PGP REDM: 11 months, weekends; ₹2,00,000 + GST; working professionals.
  • NICMAR Pune MBA: 2 years; ₹10.1 lakh (2025 fees); developer and consulting roles.
  • NICMAR Hyderabad PGP REDM: 1 year; fee on admissions page; faster PG route.
  • RICS SBE MBA: 2 years; ₹3.31 lakh per semester in year one; valuation and development roles.
  • RICS residential certificate: about 10 months online; £1,530; residential valuation skills.
  • RICS APC (MRICS): 12 to 24 months plus assessment; chartered surveyor careers.

What developers look for when hiring presales and sales staff

A valid RERA certificate is hygiene in states that require it, and a management degree helps for managerial roles. For most presales and closing roles, though, the credential carries less weight than three things a hiring manager can test in one interview:

  • Speed to lead: is a fresh portal or Meta enquiry a five-minute call or a same-day call? Ask how they would handle 40 new leads landing at 7 pm.
  • Call quality: a ten-minute role play on a price objection or a possession-date question reveals more than any certificate.
  • CRM discipline: do they log every call and next action? An untagged lead is a leaked lead, and lead leakage loses deals before any pitch is made.

This is where a course ends and a system begins. In a team running on Sell.do, a new hire's first-touch TAT, call recordings and follow-up completion are visible from week one, so managers coach on real calls instead of guessing from a certificate.

FAQs

Is there any course for real estate in India?

Yes. Options range from state RERA agent training (20 hours to four days, costing a few thousand rupees) to 11-month executive PG programmes and two-year MBAs in real estate from institutions such as NICMAR and the RICS School of Built Environment.

Is RERA certification mandatory for real estate agents?

In Maharashtra, yes: MahaRERA requires a Certificate of Competency for agent registration and renewal. Uttar Pradesh requires training and certification, with a 31 December 2026 deadline for existing agents. In other states, check your state RERA's current rules.

Do developers value online real estate certificates?

As a sign of interest, yes. As a hiring filter on their own, rarely. For presales and sales roles, developers weigh RERA compliance, role-play performance and CRM habits more heavily.

Final thoughts

A course gets you licensed; the pipeline you build afterwards decides your income. Pick the credential your state and career track require, then put your energy into responding faster and tracking every lead.
